Opening Day, May 3, at the Erwin Stover House has arrived!
Come out this Saturday to celebrate Spring in the 18th century manner. The event is happening rain or shine. All activities will move to the house and the barn in case of inclement weather. We are excited to showcase the Millstone River Morris Dancers with their Maypole, the Kichline Flying Camp Militia Reenactors, and the Boys of County Bucks back to the site for this year’s event. New to the event will be a presentation of 18th century foraging and our own Tinicum Players sharing performances of local Rev War history featuring the Erwin Family, the Bucks County Committee of Safety and our annual toast to Tammened.
This is our America 250 launch event celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. We are looking for volunteers to help us plan other 250 Heritage days throughout the year, so email me if you are interested in helping or have a cool event idea.

The last three Bucks Bygone Byways Blogs have focused on the early military history of America’s War for Independence, this month I look at the Impact the Declaration had on individuals. The early years raised concerns about of free speech, conscription, rampant disease, arson and more.

Covered Bridge Driving Tour in Bucks County

This self-guided driving tour of Bucks County’s 12 remaining covered bridges is split up into two halves. The first takes about two hours to complete, while the second takes about an hour and a half. Drive by them one at a time, or make a day out of it and complete the whole tour! The tour makes a large circle through Bucks County and is planned so the traveler can start at any one of the bridges.
Don’t forget to stop inside Bucks County’s historic towns & main streets for lunch or a coffee break.
Download the below Covered Bridge Map here! And download Bucks County’s Covered Bridge Society’s new mobile app that provides self-guided tours to all 12 wooden structures.
NOTE: The majority of the bridges do not have areas to pull off and take photographs. For the most picturesque spots, head to Perkasie and Tyler State Park’s covered bridges!

Tinicum is preparing to Celebrate America’s 250th birthday in 2026!
As Bucks 250 prepares to commemorate America’s 250th birthday in 2026, one of its core missions is to highlight historical events and organizations. Tinicum has created a steering committee to celebrate America 250 PA here at Tinicum Park. For more information contact Amy Hollander at ashollander@buckscounty.org to be involved or volunteer. The broad plan is to share the diverse stories of the early settlers of Tinicum Township, as they navigated the tumultuous waters of the American revolution. We envision this event will have music, stories, dancing, games, crafts, news and foodways of the era and possibly include military reenactments. This will be a fun, historic community event for all ages to enjoy.

The Tinicum Conservancy was formed in 1992 by a group of
conservation-minded residents who were concerned that larger, regional
land trusts weren’t paying enough attention to land protection in our
township. Within eight years, we had conserved a thousand acres. By
2004, another thousand acres were added, and yet another thousand by
2007. Today, 5,133 acres in and around Tinicum are protected… and
counting!
