Precipitation –
Over the past 90 days, 10.2 inches fell over Bucks County, which is in the NORMAL range (average is 11.2 inches). In April 3.6 in. of precipitation has been measured at Palisades High School.
Over the past 360 days, 33.8 in. fell, which is within the watch range. The annual average is 50 in., so we are still “short” 16.2 inches on a yearly basis. This 16.2 annual deficit is cause for the region to be characterized as being abnormally dry and in moderate drought condition.
Groundwater –
Is now, marginally, in NORMAL status. Local water level data (available through 4/24/2025) indicate a slow recovery from seasonal low groundwater values. The groundwater levels are between the average seasonal low and high values at 4 of 6 wells, as expected for late April. The remaining wells are below the average seasonal low value.
Streamflow – as determined by USGS data for Tohickon Creek, remains in NORMAL status.
We will have to see how the groundwater level recharge progresses during the next few months. Rainfall, from now until October, will not contribute significantly to groundwater recharge as it will be mainly used in the evapo-transpiration cycle of warmer weather and growing foliage.
So, “waste not, want not” continues to be our motto.
