6/2 The B.E.S.T. Initiative

The B.E.S.T. Initiative will emphasize the role that individuals and households play in nurturing our natural resources. It will reflect on the interplay between and among native plants, beneficial pollinators, and nurturing a healthy environment and watershed. Learn how to identify invasive plants, how to remove them effectively, and what native plants to replace them with in your backyard. It will include tips on how to train our senses to better appreciate what the natural world offers right in our own backyards. It has been made possible by a grant from Lower Delaware River Wild and Scenic Management Council.

FULL Participation is encouraged at all (3) EVENTS: 

PART 1 – The Tinicum Township Environmental Advisory Committee kicked off the first part of the B.E.S.T. Initiative (Backyard Environmental Stewardship in Tinicum) on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at the Earth Day Fair.

PART 2 – B.E.S.T. GUIDED HABITAT WALK adjacent to the Delaware Canal – June 2, 2024 A free copy of Plant Invaders of Mid-Atlantic Natural Areas guidebook will be distributed. WE WILL EMAIL THE EXACT LOCATION/PROPERTY ADDRESS OF THE WORKSHOP WHEN YOU SIGN UP.

PART 3 –  B.E.S.T. Initiative COMPLETION CELEBRATION at Tinicum Township Community Park – DATE TBD  Free native plants will be distributed and participants will be encouraged to bring  native plants from their backyards to exchange.
