FirstEnergy Preparing for Cold Event
Good afternoon,
FirstEnergy is committed to providing reliable service to all our customers and as such, we are preparing internally for the upcoming extreme cold temperatures. As part of this, all planned outages scheduled for January 20-23 have been canceled. We are actively monitoring the weather conditions and will modify any emergency plans as needed.
Additionally, we have adjusted crews internally according to areas that will be more affected by the weather and are reviewing troubleshooter staffing to ensure adequate coverage for the onset of the cold weather. Currently, we have over 3000 crew members available to assist and are also working with external contractors to assist if the need arises. Crews are completing material checks, such as poles, wires, etc. to ensure equipment and materials are in stock. Appropriate checklists and procedures are being utilized to ensure a safe, timely, and efficient response.
Our engineering department will have hazard teams ready to respond, while planning and protection staff are on call to support any load issues that may arise.
While FirstEnergy is ready to respond to the expected extreme cold temperatures, there are things that customers can do as well to be prepared.
